One hundred and sixty seven people have signed up for library cards in the last nineteen days. Sign up for a card during National Library Card sign up month during this month and get a free book. This week also celebrates National Constitution Week that runs from the 17th to the 23rd. Over 100 people have picked up constitutions and some people have even returned the Constitution trivia contest for their prize and to enter the grand prize drawing. Many thanks to the Preston Ridge Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution of Frisco who provided the pocket Constitutions and beautiful posters that are on display.

On Saturday, September 23rd, come to the Family story time for all ages at 10:30am to see Pancake Pig. At 11am Strega Nona will be shown during the Children’s Film Festival.

The business fair starts back up on Saturday, September 23rd from 11am-2pm at the library. Businesses that will be represented include Atmos Energy represented by James Johnson; Ecoenergizer represented by Lorene Cano; Mary Kay represented by top seller LaFreda Williams (who was recently awarded one of the famous pink Cadillac’s and who is also donating a Mary Kay gift basket for the business fair door prize drawing); Nationwide Insurance represented by Emily Schroeder; and Taco Bell represented by Mark. During the month of September, the Frisco Bookworm bookstore is holding both a book drive and book fair for the library. The bookstore is located at 3245 Main Street, Suite 225 in Frisco. Their book discussion area and children’s mural are a must see.

Many fundraisers and sales are going on at your library which includes ornamental pepper plants provided by Shem Nursery. Large plants sell for ten dollars, small plants for five dollars. The plants will be sold Wednesday September 19th through Saturday, September 23rd. The Little Elm Lions Club is selling Ducky Dash tickets at the library until Wednesday, September 27th. Tickets are five dollars each and five tickets cost $20. The grand prize is a 32” LCD TV. All proceeds from the Ducky Dash sales will go to the library to purchase an optical reader.

Speaking of reading, have you read a banned or challenged book lately? Banned Books Week will be celebrating its 25th anniversary September 23rd-30th. There were 405 known attempts to remove books in 2005 from U.S. schools and libraries. The top five most challenged books in 2005 were It’s perfectly normal by Robie Harris; Forever by Judy Blume; The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger; The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier; and Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher. The library has a copy of the 100 most frequently challenged books of 1990-2000 so celebrate your freedom to read by checking out a banned book @ your library.
